5th Grade Poets

The fifth graders finished a unit about poetry. They read lots of poetry and wrote lots too. They then published their poems into beautiful books. Here are some pictures of them binding and reading their newly published books and, below the pictures, a poem by Lucas.

You are Music

You are Smooth Jazz at night.
You are 80’s Pop, with its nice bass.
You are the piano in every Blues song.
You are ukulele strumming its heart away.

But you are not the loud crashes and bangs on drums, I am.
I am the electric slides in Metal music
I am the tempo going up and down,
never staying in the same place for too long

But we, together we are Music.

Grade 1: Story Telling Around a Campfire

Today I told the first graders a Native American myth about how the stars and moon came to be. They sat around a campfire listening to the story. We'll be learning other sky myths and writing our own in the next few weeks.

4th Grade: Patterns in Number Sequences and Drawing

They then tried to figure our why certain number sequences resulted in different pictures.

Here are some of the rules they came up with:

2nd Grade Plant Investigation

These bean plants sat in a dark box but managed to find their way through a maze to the one patch of sunlight at the top of the box!

1st Grade Puppet Show

We read books about monsters. We made monster puppets. We wrote a script. We performed our puppet show for several classes. It was awesome!
