Third Graders Get Ready to Make Their Movies

These kids have been studying ancient Egypt for a long time. They also wrote historical narratives and now they are almost ready to turn those stories into movies. Stay tuned to see the actual movies.

Mouse Invasion by the First Graders

The first graders wanted to help Mrs. Walior with a problem. They did a ton of research, note-taking, and writing to create this movie to help her with her problem.

Fourth Graders Make Scribble Bots

The fourth graders have been learning all about energy and how energy can change from one form to another. They then created these scribble bots that transformed the potential energy in the battery into the kinetic energy of the robot. This project took many days of designing, testing, and redesigning.

Second Graders are helping Bees

We learned that bee populations are declining and we decided to do something about it. We are planting seeds to grow plants that we will sell at the farmer's market. We hope to use the money to buy perennials that bees will like. We'll be planting those perennials in our school garden. We're teaming up with Ms. Pancake's group to do this project.

Second Graders Made Hand-Pollinators

We learned that bee populations are decreasing and we wanted to do something about it. Bees are important pollinators and we need pollinators to make seeds and fruit. Read more below the pictures.

To make our hand-pollinators, we tested materials to see how well they picked up and released "pollen" (baking soda). Then we designed, created, tested, and redesigned our hand pollinators.

Flowers are important. First we would not have shirts without flowers. For example people use bamboo to make shirts. Next we would not have food without flowers. For example chocolate grows from flowers that grow on trees. Last plants make oxygen. For example flowers make seeds that make plants that make oxygen. That is why flowers are important to us and the world.

Egg Drop

These engineers designed a carrier to keep an egg safe when it was dropped from a height. Last week we tested our first designs and then worked to improve them. Here we are testing our second prototypes today.

MAPLE LEAF WRITING CONTEST WINNERS!!!!!!

Congratulations to Django for winning first place in the Maple Leaf Writing Contest this year! He competed against 18 other 5th and 6th graders in the town of Brattleboro. Congrats to Dorian who tied for third place.

Also, congrats to all the Maple Leaf writers from our school: Meredith, Jamie, Kaliyah, Addie, Xiaohan, Lily, Sophie, Dorian, and Django. They persevered on their stories through multiple revisions for most of the school year. You can read all of the stories at the Maple Leaf site.
