Meet Bob
We have been investigating gravity by experimenting with a pendulum. The bob is the thing at the bottom of the pendulum that swings. Here's what we did:
First we swung Bob and found out that Bob swung 6 times in 20 seconds. Second we made Bob even heavier and we observed that Bob swung 6 times again. Then we pushed Bob harder and we observed that Bob still swung 6 times !!! Afterwards we shortened the strung and Bob swung 7 times. We observed that Bob swung one more time. Yes!!!!!!! Therefore I think that the only way to make Bob swing more is to shorten the string because when the string is short Bob will not have to go a long way.

First we swung Bob and we found out he swung 6 times in 20 seconds. Second we put more weight and it was the same! Then we pushed it harder and it went 6 times AGAIN! Afterwards we made the stung shorter and it went more more time! Therefore I think that if you change the length of the string you can change how many times it swings because it has a shorter or longer distance to travel.

First we sung Bob and we found out Bob swung 6 times in 20 seconds. Second we put more marbles in Bob to make it heavier but we observed Bob swung 6 times in 20 seconds again. Then we pushed it harder and we observed that Bob still went 6 times in 20 seconds!!! Afterwards we made the string shorter and it swung 7 times in 20 seconds. Finally!!!!! Therefore my claim is the only way to change how many times Bob swings is to make the string shorter. My reasoning is if you make the string shorter then Bob will swing more. I think this happens because Bob has a shorter distance to go.

Investigating Gravity
Do objects with different sizes and different weights fall at the same rate? We investigated to find out.
The evidence showed that the size and weight of the objects don't matter! Different objects hit the ground at the same time.

January Was a Busy Month
We visited the boiler room with Ricky and Mr. Paciulli to see the new pellet stove.
We have had a few book talks where we tell others about the books we are reading.
We tested materials such as tape and pipe cleaners to determine which was the best material to pick up and release pollen. We used baking soda to represent the pollen.
We read about behaviors that are acquired or that are instincts.
We grew some bean plants for a science experiment. We'll see how healthy these plants look after spending a week or two in a dark closet.

Comic Books
How might the Wampanoag felt about the arrival of the pilgrims? We did a lot of research, learned some strong feeling words, and then wrote comic books to share our ideas.
