6th Graders Try to Make Stone Age Technology

The 6th graders learned about early humans. They also had a chance at trying to make some stone tools using the same techniques that early humans would have used.

Here's another student trying to make some cave art using the technique of blowing paint at her hand. Early humans would have chewed on pigment and sprayed it directly out of their mouths.

Community Helpers

Ellen's kindergarten class learned all about people in our community who help us. Here's a movie that I put together for them from all of their research.

You are Music

You are Smooth Jazz at night.
You are 80’s Pop, with its nice bass.
You are the piano in every Blues song.
You are ukulele strumming its heart away.

But you are not the loud crashes and bangs on drums, I am.
I am the electric slides in Metal music
I am the tempo going up and down,
never staying in the same place for too long

But we, together we are Music.

4th Grade: Patterns in Number Sequences and Drawing

The fourth graders made some cool images by taking a number sequence and following these directions:

For the sequence 2, 4, 5, first draw a line 2 boxes long. Turn right and draw another line 4 boxes long. Turn right again and draw a line 5 boxes long. Turn right and draw a line 2 boxes long. Keep following the pattern, repeating it as often as necessary to return home.

They then tried to figure our why certain number sequences resulted in different pictures.

Here are some of the rules they came up with:

3rd Grade Poetry Celebration

The entire third grade at Academy School spent a few weeks learning about poetry and writing their own poems. I collected a poem from each student and we bound them into a book. They were so excited to make their own book and read their friends' poems.
